Family Photography Montgomery AL | Why You Should Print Your Photos

Family Photography Montgomery AL

Digital images.  They changed the world, didn’t they?  I remember long before I was providing Family photography in Montgomery AL I received my first digital camera in 2005.  It was a brick.  And I think it only held a handful of very pixilated images.  If I remember right, most of what went onto that camera was a lot of pictures of my husband’s and my very first home waiting for furniture that we couldn’t afford and then a lot of images of our new puppy, Emilee.  I’m not even sure I knew how to get those images from the camera to the computer.  Gosh…I don’t even think I knew that you should do that!  Those pictures don’t exist anymore.  I’m not even sure what happened.  I know the camera broke but where those images went I will never know.  Around the same time my husband’s grandparents gifted us with a film camera.  And you know what?  My husband and I are coming up on 18 years of marriage in a few days and I still have every picture I took with that film camera.  I know where they are right now and my children LOVE looking through the old memories.  They will probably be around for a long time after this.  I’ve been a photographer for a long time and even I sometimes still am shocked by the stories that I come across that prove over and over again that printing is superior to digital.  As I was thinking about this story of the early years of our marriage and our various cameras we had I thought I would share with you some really compelling reasons why you should print your family’s images.

Digital Files Can Easily Become Corrupted Over Time

Have you heard of “bit rot” before?  “Bit rot is the slow deterioration in the performance and integrity of data stored on storage media. It is also known by the names bit decay, data rot, data decay and silent corruption.”  In a nutshell, hard drives are made up of a lot of different metal pieces that are precisely placed in order to deliver jolts of electricity that move the information through the device.  Sometimes, these microscopic “highways” will lose or change their charge automatically. An event known as “flipping”. When this happens the data will be erased, corrupted or become unreadable.  This might very well have been what happened to that old digital camera that I had.  Bit rot is more common than you think and I can’t tell you how many hard drives my husband and I have owned that have been corrupted or lost due to bit rot.  I very nearly lost almost every image I took of my sweet 3rd daughter’s birth and first year of life.  When I serve people with family photography in Montgomery AL this is the outcome I want to avoid for them.

Family Photography is an Investment that Deserves More

Imagine you purchased the most incredible dress.  It cost at least $1000.  And you decided to re-paint your house in it.  How INSANE would you be to invest in an incredible new dress only to run the risk of destroying it with paint?  Or imagine that you’ve gone to the nicest most lavish restaurant in town and they serve your meal to you on paper plates with flimsy plastic forks.  It really would do a disservice to the experience and meal.  Like wise photography, of any kind, is an investment.  Hiring a photographer for your family photography in Montgomery AL and then just getting the digitals is like having a 5 star meal on paper plates.

Printed Family Photography will Spark Joy and Confidence in Your Children

I cannot tell you how many times my children have looked through our old family photos recently.  It is such a source of joy for them all.  And in a day and age where screens are ever present and a huge source of temptation to waste time I relish any opportunity to lead my children to activities that are screen free.  The heirloom albums that are just within reach and the framed family memories that pepper the walls of our home spark so much joy.  I kind of harp on this sometimes….but it also has been proven to increase a child’s self esteem when you display their faces on your walls and in your home.  Maybe that alone is reason enough to take the plunge.

Choosing Custom Quality Materials will Create Heirlooms

What’s the difference between an heirloom and a picture?  An heirloom is something special.  It is a higher quality and will last for generations.  When you are considering heirlooms you will hear things like: archival fine art prints on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Bright White archival papers matted and delivered in a custom linen box, conservation mat board, museum acrylics and custom moulding.  There is a reason that these things last for generations.  They are crafted from the highest quality materials and actively fight against decay by blocking UV rays and acids etc…If you read my investment guide for Family Photography in Montgomery AL you will find all these details in every heirloom product I provide.

I could go on and on about this subject.  And in a future journal entry I can give you all the resources to know how to print your images.  But for now, don’t settle for invisible digital pictures.  Invest in memories that bring joy and beauty to your home.

If you are looking for Family Photography in Montgomery AL that will treat your images with more care than a meaningless digital file exchange, I would absolutely love to have a chat with you about an experience with me.  I am so very passionate about not only getting your memories printed for your home but also serving you.  You have enough on your plate right now.  Lets not let those images sit unseen on a USB drive, but lets also not add another thing to your to-do list.  From the details of picking outfits to designing to delivery, I will handle it all so you don’t have to.  In order to give my clients this luxury service, I only take a limited number of clients per month so contact me as soon as possible to get on my calendar.
