Summer is coming! Are you looking for things to do in Alabama with kids? I have six kids myself and this is probably one of the most commonly asked questions between my husband and me. What should we do with the kids today? My kids range in ages from 15 all the way down to 5 years old. It can be a challenge to find something that suits the needs of everyone. Below you will find some ideas for things to do in Alabama with kids, some we have done and some are on our list to try. Here’s hoping for a fun summer for everyone!
Alabama Adventure: Amusement & Water Park
Alabama Adventure has two different attractions. The Amusement park and the Splash Adventure. Personally, I will absolutely melt in the heat unless I am around the water. And if you are expecting a baby then the Splash Adventure is the obvious choice. I don’t think there is a better “things to do in Alabama with kids” than a water park. I mean. Let’s end the list here. All guests entering the park will receive FREE: Unlimited Soft Drinks at Pepsi Oasis stations throughout the park, Parking, Use of Inner Tubes, Use of Life Jackets and Shows. They have a lazy river, several amazing water slides and a wave pool. This is a great option for summer fun! Speaking of escaping the Alabama heat….
Things to Do in Alabama with Kids
DeSoto Caverns Family Fun Park
Giant bubbles, forge demonstrations, magic, fire juggling, ring juggling….Does any of this sound like what you would expect from a Cavern? I have toured many caverns in my lifetime (my dad is an adventurer!) and never have I seen that list associated with a Cavern before! This place looks absolutely magical. The incredible caverns are incredible and they have been engineered to allow access for strollers and wheelchairs while not taking away from the natural beauty of this natural phenomenon. The DeSoto Caverns are officially on my list for my family this summer!
Don’t underestimate the fun of going to the local pool. My family has more fun in a pool sometimes than at an amusement park. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I really hate the heat. Ironic I’m in Alabama, right? Fortunately, pools are ubiquitous in Alabama because I’m pretty sure no one else likes the heat either. Here’s a great list of pool games to play to make your time even more fun!
A List of Things to do in Alabama with kids
I think I sense a theme here. In my opinion, water is the only place to be when its 90º+. Orange beach has fun family things to do like a ferris wheel, fishing out on a boat, historic forts to tour, and much more. The beach and summer just seem to go hand in hand and the Alabama Gulf has some amazing beaches. Don’t forget your sunscreen! A few tips for dealing with beach sand: bring along a laundry basket for all your toys. You can use it like a sifter to shake the sand out of all your toys before packing up the car. Bring along some baby powder or get THIS to help remove sand from little feet when you’re done.
Things to do in Alabama with Kids | State Park
When you are looking for things to do in Alabama with kids, look no further than Oak Mountain State Park. From horseback riding to, yes, water sports (I had to stick with the theme…its a thing now) this state park has something for all ages. Many of these are relatively inexpensive or even free! Kids will love to go boating out on the lake or to explore nature with a hike. There’s even something for mom and dad with an 18 hole golf course!
