It’s the middle of summer, the kids are home, its hot as all get out and you are looking for things to do in Montgomery AL with kids. I get it. Same here. I decided to write down a list of fun things to keep everyone entertained this summer so you can easily come back to this list anytime you feel in a slump. And let’s be honest….I’m absolutely using my own list with my own family entertainment as well! Here are 6 fantastic things to do in Montgomery AL with kids this summer:
Things to do in Montgomery AL
Montgomery Zoo: Zoo’s are such a classic activity that wins every time. This is such a classic way to have fun as a family this summer. Activities like animal paintings and animal encounters will provide your kids with entertainment and they will be enriched by the experience. The Montgomery Zoo is split up into different world regions which makes this immersive experience so organized and easy to follow and educate for older kids and younger children alike. If you’re wanting an activity to expand your little ones’ minds AND entertain them, look no further than the zoo, one of the best things to do in Montgomery AL with kids.
Eastdale Mall Ice Palace – an indoor ice skating rink. I am from the midwest and one of the things I miss most about living there is the cold winters. I know this is probably an unusual thing to love. But I grew up in California where the weather is somewhat steady all year around. It’s lovely….but when I moved to the midwest I was absolutely in love with the change in seasons. It’s something fresh and new to experience every few months and after 14 years there, it never got old. Since it only snows about once every 10 years in Alabama, the indoor ice skating rink is the perfect “getaway” for the whole family! Escape the heat of summer and have fun with this amazing thing to do in Montgomery AL.
Children’s Educational Activities
Alabama Department of Archives and History: This is such a neat place. I’ve been once and its so big that I need to go back to explore more. My kids favorite part was a little room dedicated to children where you can play a seek and find game to earn a prize on your way out. In this room kids can touch and play with all the historical items as much as they want. My kids LOVED the functioning typewriter. They typed messages to each other and could hardly wait to give each other turns on it. When looking for things to do in Montgomery AL I love including things like this where it might be a lot to take in for super little ones, but it can be enjoyed by the whole family in little chunks of time across the summer. Try exploring one room at a time once a week. Sometimes just getting out of the house is all it takes to make a memory that lasts.
Harriott II Riverboat: Ok. Did you know there was a riverboat in Montgomery? What a cool and unique thing to do in Montgomery AL. Re-live history and go for a fun little cruise down the river. The Riverboat offers dinner, dancing, and live entertainment, making this a perfect night out for the family. Enjoy downtown Montgomery from a really unique perspective. This sounds like an incredible memory that will live with your children for years to come.
Montgomery City Planetarium: Who doesn’t love a planetarium? My husband and I went on an anniversary trip by ourselves once and found ourselves at a planetarium….without our kids! It was so fun. Granted, I probably would have enjoyed it 10 times more if my kids had been with us. There is something so magical about seeing something through a child’s eyes. But everyone will enjoy going to the planetarium. When looking for things to do in Montgomery AL, look no further than the Montgomery City Planetarium.
Artistic Things to do in Montgomery AL with kids
Alabama Shakespear Festival: With productions from the creative minds of Montgomery’s best entertainers shows are going all season long. Everything from Macbeth to Roger’s & Hammerstien’s Cinderella there is sure to be a show that will entertain the whole family. When I’m looking for things to do in Montgomery AL I really love introducing my kids to culture and the arts. This is such a great way to inspire the creative little minds in your family.
If your looking for summer entertainment for your children, don’t forget to start thinking about your fall plans as well. Family portrait sessions tend to get booked up incredibly fast in the fall and you don’t want to be caught in a tight spot and not getting booked with the right photographer for you. Feel free to inquire about a family session with me. I would love to chat with you about how I can serve your family best.
