Mama’s

A long dress with a flowing skirt will create a beautiful, romantic look and will also keep you comfortable during the session. Neutral colors like white, ivory, cream, or light gray are classic and timeless, while muted earth tones like stone, tan, and sage green can add a soft and natural touch to the photographs. You can even find what I like to call “a grandpa sweater” to add some interest in the warmer months. These pieces can add a touch of sophistication and create a cohesive look with the mom’s outfit. However, make sure the outfit is comfortable as the session will require a lot of movement and interaction with the baby.
Children
When it comes to children’s outfits for a newborn photography session, the key is to keep it simple and comfortable. For girls, a light, delicate, or lace romantic, dress in neutral or muted pinks or creams is perfect. I personally would stay away from harsher earth tones like beige, tan, and olive green for little girls as they can read a little harsh on film. Delicate textures like lace or tulle can add detail, interest and a natural and soft touch to the photographs. For boys, a simple button-up shirt or a henley paired with tan chinos is classic and timeless. In many ways boys outfits often mirror Dad’s outfit. I would avoid being an exact match. Can anyone remember the all white or denim fad of the 90’s?? Cringe. Also, DEFINITELY avoid graphic t-shirts. A simple little touch I like to add, especially to boys under the age of 5, is a sweet pair of suspenders. I can’t tell you how many people comment on this!! It’s one of the best simple details to add.
